Patricia Lucena graduated in Chemistry and specialized in Analytical Chemistry at University of Granada, Spain, in 1994. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry at University of Málaga, in the department of Analytical Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences, in 2003.
Her thesis work focused on the analysis of automobile catalysts by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy under the advisement of Prof. Dr. J. Javier Laserna. The investigation was performed in the Laboratory of Materials Analysis by Laser of the Central Research Services at Malaga University. She is currently forming part of the staff of the same laboratory.
